As you start your deep dive into the Unknown Sector of the Library of Babel, you might find yourself overwhelmed by the amount of things to do in Black Beacon. If you want to take advantage of all the hidden mechanisms and not waste any extra Clarity coming back for items you may have skipped, our Black Beacon Beginners Guide has your covered!
Some of the Main Story stages will contain chests with precious loot, including Rune Shards that you can fuse into Time Keys. Not only that, but finding all chests in a certain group of levels will award you with more Shards through achievements.
The game offers a list of all available chests for every chapter at the bottom of stage selection screen. Chests that will appear at the very next stage will have a greyed-out image of their orientation when you check the list.
Playing the level in isometric camera can help you keep an eye out for matching floors and corners that can contain your chest. If you play a stage by checking all available rooms other than the story progression, you are certain to find every chest on the first try.
This means you should try to go through any door you see on the map. There are different types and some will let you through, while some will require you to solve a certain trigger mechanism. If you are still having trouble finding chests, there is an option to immediately get all remaining chests in a stage. However to unlock this, you will have to progress the main story significantly.
Some stages in Black Beacon also contain completely optional, minor loot that appears upon finding a point of interest. It will appear as an interactable glowing sphere, usually containing a document on the rich lore of the game.
The shining beacon of white light that spawns following this will usually contain a minor drop in the form of upgrade materials. Light beacons will also appear on their own at certain spots. Some light beacons and golden spheres can be seen far ahead in a level. Unlike for chests, the game won't tell you these exist in a stage. Make sure to remember where they are and not miss them!
You will find a variety of mechanisms in a level, but the purpose of some isn't clear on first look. Some of them, like the ones controlled by Cosmos's pendant, rely on stopping the time to trigger.
Others may additionally require you to hit them five times while time is frozen to activate. The pendant will gain more abilities as you progress the main story. You can check the Stage Skill list in the pause menu to know what to expect from it. To pass through traps undamaged or to be able to destroy the obstacle, simply click the icon of the pendant.
Other strange mechanisms in the levels include these mentioned below.
Yes, you can get stuck while exploring a level, especially in places like stairs. Though the developers often can't prevent it, they did prepare the Unstuck option. To avoid replaying the level entirely, just pause the game and hit the Unstuck button at the top of the screen.
It may not work on the first try, so try again if your character didn't move. We found that trying it twice puts us back on track. The same places will likely get you stuck again, so try to avoid them, as these happenings seem to be bugs.
It's easy enough to complete a tutorial for a character, and you should absolutely do so for every new pull because it gives you Time Keys. It's not nearly as easy to remember numerous combos while clearing a level. If you're facing an unexpected boss while playing the story and need to remember the moveset, you can find it in the pause menu. The Move List menu on the left will refresh your memory for every character in your current team.
In order to get the most out of your Black Beacon units and clear higher difficulty stages, you will need to level both them and their skills. You can unlock their Breakthrough materials farming when you clear level 1-9 of the main story.
Additionally, on clearing 1-14, you also unlock the farming spots for the Skill upgrade materials. To keep pushing for the levels with higher rarity materials, you will need to up your Seer level. Don't forget to use your time-limited Spherical Fruits, and always empty your Clarity before exiting the game. The drops won't go to waste, and it will ensure the maximum usage of all your resources, especially time.
Clearing farming stages with fulfilling three criteria will allow you to Sweep them. Sweeping will instantly grant you rewards of a level, and you can also multiply them for as much Clarity as you have.
The game already showed skin recolors for all characters on launch, and a completely unique one for Viola. This means many more unique skins will be introduced in the future as well. While they are likely to cost Rune Stones, like we see is the case for Viola's Freesia skin, the free trial offers you a chance to pick up her weapon skin for free.
Simply navigate to Events menu and complete the Freesia Outfit Trial before May 11th to get the beautiful weapon skin. You can also wear the weapon skin independently from the character skin, and freshen up your Viola for free.
